Most spiders are after the insects in your garage and crawl space. Cut the webs, cut their food, and treat where they nest.

02 House spiders

The one in the corner.

House spiders grow to about ⅜ inch with a round abdomen, usually brown or tan with markings. They build webs in any corner, most often in garages, crawl spaces and basements, where there’s less disturbance and more insects.

03 What helps

Keeping them down.

  • Remove webs regularly. It’s the best way to limit them.
  • Seal gaps around windows and doors.
  • Switch outdoor bulbs to yellow “bug light” bulbs that draw fewer of the insects spiders eat.
  • Treat outdoor nesting sites as part of an overall pest program.
